Silver Cave

Silver Cave is situated in Lipu County, 85km away from the Guilin City. It was opened to the public in 1999. Since Guilin is a city with typical karst landform, the cave is also a typical karst cave with various-shaped stalactites and stalagmites. In the cave, stalactites and stalagmites are shining like silver forms a silver river, hence the name. 
 
Silver Cave Scenic Area is the representative of Guilin landscapes with green hills, crystal river, grasslands and green trees. The silver cave is located in the scenic area surrounded by beautiful sceneries. The scenic area is also the site for some annually local festivals such as flowers festival, taro festival, bicycle race and rock-climbing races. With these activities, the area is also a ethnic cultural attraction.
 
Legend of the Silver Cave
Just after the foundation of the Qing Dynasty, there are Three Southern Kings headed by Wu Sanggui, Pingxi King. In Kangxi Period of the Qing, A general of Pingxi King’s army was defeated and they hided gold, silver and jewelry that they could not take when escaping in a cave and the cave is the Silver Cave. Numerous people came here to find the treasures in hundreds years in vain. There is a local doggerel says: “Treasures in the Silver Cave make people in Guangxi and Hunan provinces rich”, which still give people a lot of imagination.
